After combing through user-generated stories of debauchery, some 50-100 pages long, I was hooked. I was engrossed in the descriptions, the characters and where the story was going. Instantly flooded with nostalgia I jumped into the first story I could find, one entitled ‘Blue Balls’. Very fitting for my situation at the time. Getting to choose how this incredible story would play out, with whom I would spend my night, and what fantastical way I would get my rocks off was something I had never experienced before.
I was so enthralled with this site that even after I came I continued to read my story to find out where it was heading, and then went exploring the site for what more it had to offer. The Story Map
Okay this is kind of cheating, but each story has a story map, and with this you can see how the chapters link together. Working in a cascade, it shows each branching path, where the chapters divert and how the story unfolds. It also highlights which chapters you have already read and where you stopped, as well as which chapters are new.
Check Perspectives
Is your chosen story written from a particular gendered perspective? Sometimes a story will be set in one gender, sometime you can play as multiple characters, or sometimes you are a cat person.
You certainly don’t want to get through several chapters of a story before realising it’s not from a perspective that turns you on.
Check The Tags
All stories on CHYOA are tagged, so check those out before you dive into the story. There are hundreds of tags to suit any of your kinks and preferred story themes.
You can also search stories by their tags. A tip here is to put a hyphen before a word to exclude it from the search, e.g. ‘-Dogging’, and use a plus to combine multiple tags, e.g. ‘Lesbian+Group+Sex’.
Customisation
Many of the stories allow you to dynamically customise the content. From simple things such as allowing you to change the names of characters, to much more detailed descriptions of height, eye colour, job, bust or penis size, and even the words used to describe these attributes. CHYOA is first and foremost community-led. You can create your own chapters or entire branching narratives off the back of existing stories. You will need to ask the original author’s permission, but from what I have seen most of them are happy to let you contribute and build out the worlds they have created.

A lot of stories are constantly evolving. Remember ‘Blue Balls’ I talked about earlier? That’s had 100 chapters added to it since I read it the first time. Keep checking back on your favourite stories and discovering the new forms they take.

If you have another person with you, why not read a story together? You can take a chapter each and let the other person make the decision as to what happens next at the end of the chapter.
Savour the story
